Curriculum

Your degree course encompasses the historical development of British and European society from 1500 to the late 20th century.

Questions of class, gender and race will be at the heart of your investigations as you examine the rise and decline of the British Empire and analyse the impact of social and political change on people's lives.

In your second year you’ll examine the key ideas and politics of European history. You’ll also focus on research and archive work and take up a stimulating work experience placement.

Oral history is increasingly important, and in year three you’ll undertake a module featuring people’s memories of historical events, in which you’ll interview Londoners about their vivid past.

By now, you’ll be ready to research and complete a major dissertation in an area reflecting your interests.
