Entry Requirements

English Language Requirements:

  • IELTS: 6.5 overall (minimum 6.0 in all elements)
  • Pearson Academic (PTE): 62 overall (minimum 56 in all elements)
  • TOEFL (iBT): 90(Listening-17; Reading-18; Speaking-20; Writing-17)
  • AS Level/A-level: Grade C in English Language
  • Cambridge Advanced English (CAE): Grade C
  • Cambridge Certificate of Proficiency in English (CPE): Grade C

Curriculum

In first year, students are introduced to what it means to think sociologically and to key sociological debates and issues. In second year, students develop skills in research methods and learn about the concepts and theories by which sociologists understand the contemporary world.

In final year, Single Honours Sociology students design and undertake their own research project, which they write as a dissertation under the guidance of a dedicated supervisor. In all three years, students complete modules, both core and elective, on specific topics about the social world.
