Taylor’s Law School Students Impress Malaysian Bar President

Taylor’s Law School students received Academic Awards for their outstanding performance in their examinations

Taylor’s Law School students were awarded for their excellent academic performance in their studies at Taylor’s University recently.

In an award ceremony graced by Mr Steven Thiru, the newly elected President of the Malaysian Bar, the aspiring legal eagles were lauded for their prowess in subjects like Criminal Law, Constitutional & Administrative Law, Intellectual Property Law and more.

Ivory Sim Wang Chin received the prize for Best Overall Performance in Year 2 while Liew Jun Yang received the prize for Best Overall Performance in Year 1. A second year student, Phang Roze Nn, who received the award for Best Overall Performance in Year 1 & 2 attributes her achievement a disciplined outlook to life.

The bubbly young adult, who received the opportunity to do her work experience with Shook Lin & Bok, shared that she put her mind to receiving an academic award from the first time she heard about it.

“Anything I have done so far naturally flows in accordance with the goal I wanted to achieve. Everything I have done so far has worked out for me because I had the mentality that by hook or by crook, I had to get that book prize. I believe that everyone has different methods of studying, but set a goal and I believe that where there is a will, there is a way.

“I’m excited about this opportunity as Shook Lin & Bok is one of the largest law firms in Malaysia. The firm offers a wide range of legal services and this is great because I can get the chance to have a preview of how the different areas of practice are like,” she said.

In addressing the law students who were present at the ceremony, Steven stated that they are beneficiaries of a good foundation in the law and advised them to carve the Rule of Law into their hearts and minds during this phase of their journey and never forget it.

Taylor’s Law School Dean, Mr Harmahinder Singh shared his appreciation for the timely advice to the first and second year students.

“Congratulations to all our high-achieving students. While this may be seem tedious now, the knowledge you have retained and the effort you have put into your studies will bear fruit in the long run.

“I would also like to express my gratitude to Mr Steven Thiru for choosing to deliver his maiden speech as President of the Malaysian Bar here at Taylor’s University. We are appreciative of the input he has provided over the years as a member of our Industry Advisory Panel and look forward to collaborating with him in the future to better empower the next generation of lawyers,” said Harmahinder.

The half-day event was attended by representatives from leading law firms Azmi & Associates; Chooi & Company; Lee Hishammuddin Allen & Gledhill; Shearn & Delamore; Shook Lin & Bok; Sivananthan, Advocates & Solicitors; Skrine Advocates & Solicitors; Raja Darryl & Loh; Zaid Ibrahim & Co and Zul Rafique & Partners.
