PhD in Mathematics

About

Xiamen University's School of Mathematical Sciences (SMS) started the Mathematics and Applied Mathematics program in 1923, making it one of the university's original offerings. Chen Jingrun, a renowned mathematician, participated in this program from 1949 to 1953. According to US News & World Report's "2018 Best Universities for Mathematics," XMU is placed 81st internationally and 10th in China. Since 2018, XMU's mathematics department has been ranked in the top 0.5% internationally in Essential Science Indicators (ESI), with annual improvements. The school's faculty publishes over 150 SCI journal papers each year. SMS publishes the Journal of Mathematical Study and collaborates with Global Science Press on the East Asian Journal of Applied Mathematics, a SCIE journal. XMU welcomes around 100 mathematicians each year, thanks to its collaboration with global universities. In 2019, Xiamen University constructed the TianYuan Mathematical Centre in Southeast China.

The PhD Program in Mathematics at Xiamen University Malaysia builds on the MSc program and prepares students for careers as industry leaders, researchers, or educators in the field of mathematics. The institution aims to develop creative specialists with strong technical and critical thinking skills through this degree.
