Entry Requirements

  • An upper second class honours degree or a master’s degree relevant to the proposed area of research awarded by a UK;
  • Other recognised University or higher education institution, or by the Council for National Academic Awards (CNAA).

*Applicants who do not possess the normal minimum entrance qualifications may be considered for candidature based on other qualifications or experience

Curriculum

MPhil including arts practice as research
The student researching for the MPhil including arts practice as research may combine arts practice with other research methods. The student is expected to present a substantial body of creative work in the form of an exhibition/media output/performance or its appropriate documentation for the final examination. Submissions will include a written component of no less than 10,000 words and no more than 25,000. The written submission will articulate the relevant historical, theoretical, critical and/or design context of the research. The balance between written and practical elements will be determined by individual students in consultation with their supervisors.

MPhil
In the case of the standard MPhil the research will not include arts practice as research, although visual research and analysis may be included and presented as part of the written work. The final submission for examination will take the form of a written work embodying the aims, methods and results of the research. The length of the written work should be no less than 20,000 and no more than 50,000 words, excluding footnotes and references
