About

The Master of Information Technology (MIT) by Research at Nilai University is a research-intensive postgraduate programme designed for students who wish to develop expertise in computing and IT research. This programme equips graduates with advanced knowledge, critical thinking skills, and the ability to conduct independent research in various IT-related fields. The research areas among others may include  Advanced Database, Advanced Computer Networks, Programming Language, Knowledge Management, IT Governance, Business Intelligence etc.

Entry Requirements

Bachelor’s Degree (Level 6, MQF) in a Related Field:

  • Pass with a minimum CGPA of 3.00; OR
  • Pass with a minimum CGPA of 2.00, may require an internal assessment

Bachelor’s Degree (Level 6, MQF) in a Non-Related Field:

  • Pass with a minimum CGPA of 2.50 and relevant work experience, may require an internal assessment; OR
  • Pass with a minimum CGPA of 2.50 without relevant work experience, may be required to complete prerequisite courses

English Language Requirements:

  • MUET: Minimum band 4.0
  • IELTS: Minimum score 6.0
  • TOEFL Essentials Online: Minimum score 8.5
  • TOEFL iBT: Minimum score 60
  • Pearson Test of English (PTE): Minimum score 59

* Candidates without qualifications in the related fields or relevant working experience must undergo appropriate prerequisite modules.

The Master of Information Technology by Research Programme encompasses the following five phases:

Phase I – Pre-requisite Core** Course (3 credit hours)

  • Research Methodology and Statistics (Compulsory)

Phase II – Preliminary Research

  • This forms the basis on which students build their proposal and eventually their project.

Phase III – Proposal Defence

  • Each student must publicly present and defend his/her research proposals. The student is only allowed to continue with his/her research to Phase IV on passing of the defence of his/her proposal.

Phase IV – Thesis Preparation

  • The student proceeds to his/her data collection, data analysis and report writing.

Phase V – Viva Voce

  • After completion and submission of the thesis, the student is required to attend a Viva Voce to orally defend his/her thesis.
