About
The MBBS curriculum at MAHSA lasts for five years. It is separated into two stages: phase 1 includes years one and two, while phase 2 includes years three and five. The majority of the Phase 1 curriculum takes place on the campus of MAHSA University, with some clinical medicine exposure at Hospital Tanjung Karang.
The clinical phase of the initiative, known as Phase 2, is primarily centred in hospitals and clinics. Hospital Sungai Buloh, Hospital Kuala Lumpur, and Hospital Tanjung Karang are the hospitals that are utilised. Additionally, students receive clinical training in Taman Ehsan, Taman Medan, Rawang Perdana, and Klinik Kesihatan AU2. This guarantees a diverse range of clinical training in primary care clinics, community hospitals, and large referral centres.
A Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) degree is awarded upon successful completion of this five-year curriculum.
The Malaysian Qualification Agency (MQA) has recognised this program, and it is included in the FAIMER WORLD DIRECTORY OF MEDICAL SCHOOLS.
Preclinical Program Phase 1
Phase 1 lasts for two years. Basic medical sciences are taught in organ-system blocks during this program's preclinical period. Modules for Early Clinical Exposure (ECE) and Personal and Professional Development (PPD) are offered during the two years. The goal of PPD modules is to improve communication skills and a humanistic mindset. Early clinical experience enables students to learn history taking and physical examination skills on simulated patients and develop communication and clinical reasoning skills. The students have some clinical exposure to patients during scheduled visits to Hospital Tanjung Karang in both years.
Additionally, students are exposed to clinical cases during regular Problem-Based Learning (PBL) sessions. During these sessions, they learn the fundamental science of the disease, how to identify symptoms and signs, and how to interpret a range of laboratory tests in order to make logical differential diagnoses. The goal of both the PBL and ECE sessions is to incorporate clinical science learning challenges with the fundamental medical sciences.
During this stage, community medicine is also introduced.
During Phase 1, there are two main tests. The first occurs at the conclusion of the first year, and the second occurs at the end of the second.
Phase 2: Clinical Initiative
After completing portion 1, the student will move on to Phase 2, or the clinical portion, of the program. This stage includes years three, four, and five. It takes place in government hospitals and clinics that have been designated as faculty teaching facilities. The student will work in the subjects listed in the program framework for two to eight weeks at a time. In order to graduate, students must pass the Final Professional Examination at the conclusion of their fifth year.
