Entry Requirements
- Three A Levels with grades of BBC or above
- Two A Levels with grades AB and one AS Level grade A
- BTEC Extended Diploma (QCF) with grade DMM
- BTEC Diploma (QCF) with grade DM and BTEC Subsidiary Diploma (QCF) with grade M
- BTEC Diploma (QCF) with grade DM and A Level with grade of C
- CACHE Diploma at grade B
- Access Diploma with a minimum of 30 Level 3 credits at merit or above
English Language Requirements:
- IELTS 6.0 with a minimum of 6.0 in reading and writing, and no individual score lower than 5.5
- OR Trinty College London Integrated Skills in English pass at ISEIII or above.
Curriculum
In Year 1 you will consider different models, theories and approaches to Health and Wellbeing. You will explore a range of causes of Health and Wellbeing and how these relate to social divisions and inequalities. You will look at different policy initiatives with a focus on the ways in which policy impacts on the Health and Wellbeing of different groups in society. You will think about some of key Health and Wellbeing issues in the UK such as the rising burden of non-communicable diseases and increasing focus on 'healthy lifestyles'.
In Year 2 you will explore the role of public health and health promotion and how key drivers and priorities have changed over time. You will be introduced to a range of theoretical approaches and through case studies and practical work you will think about how theories relate to practice. You will study a range of key dilemmas and debates in public health and health promotion such as: ethical implications; unhealthy lifestyles; risk and health; the challenge of health inequalities and the role of the media in health promotion. You will also study research methods where you will explore a broad range of topics relating to planning and carrying out research, analysing research data and writing up research reports.
In year 3 you will think about Health and Wellbeing issues at a global level. You will explore key principles, goals and challenges in global health and will consider a range of contemporary issues in global health for example: infectious and non-infectious diseases; the growing global burden of chronic disease; globalization and global mental health. You will also explore the importance of the life-course approach as a framework for understanding Health and Wellbeing. This will cover topics such as inequalities, social relationships and risk and resilience across the life course. You will study some of the key Health and Wellbeing challenges at each stage of the life-course for example, the challenge of an ageing population. In your final year there are opportunities to work with a range of community organisations/projects as you undertake your own research project.
