Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS)

About

Welcome to an immersive approach to dental education at IMU. From the very beginning, students go beyond traditional lecture halls, gaining the hands-on skills necessary to tackle complex dental challenges and provide high-quality care to patients from diverse backgrounds.

IMU’s Dentistry programme is structured to ensure early exposure to real-life clinical settings, offering learning opportunities in dental clinics, hospitals, and community outreach placements. This approach fosters essential qualities such as teamwork, patience, and compassion, all of which are crucial for a successful dental career.

With clinical exposure starting in Semester 1 and direct patient treatment beginning in Year 2, students develop strong practical skills through student-centred learning activities and competency assessments. These experiences prepare them for patient care responsibilities and compulsory service upon graduation. As IMU offers the widest range of healthcare programmes in Malaysia, dental students become part of a dynamic, interdisciplinary healthcare community. This environment encourages strong friendships and professional connections that serve as the foundation for an extensive healthcare network in the future.

IMU’s students learn under the guidance of highly qualified dental professionals, each with over a decade of academic experience. The learning environment includes the IMU Dental Skills Centre and the Oral Health Centre, both of which are equipped with cutting-edge technology to enhance interactive learning, skills development, and patient education. These facilities ensure a safe and modern approach to patient care.

IMU’s Dental curriculum is designed to meet rigorous international standards and is recognised by partner universities worldwide. This allows students the opportunity to transfer credits for Phase 1 of their Dentistry programme, providing a seamless academic progression towards a globally recognised dental qualification.
