About York College

The history of York College dates back to the 1800s. In September 2007, the York College opened its doors to some 13,000 learners on the Sim Balk Lane site, Bishopthorpe, York. The College offers a wide range of academic and vocational qualifications at all levels. It offers courses in the fields of Art, Design and Crafts, Business, Admin, Finance, Child Studies, Construction and Engineering, Hairdressing, Beauty Therapy and Media Make-up, Hospitality, Travel and Tourism, Information Technology, Science, Social Science and Health, Sport and Public Services, and Teacher Education and Training.

Moreover, York College is one of the largest providers of A Level and vocational programs in the region, it offers over 40 A Level subjects and 80 vocational programs. The college provides an outstanding preparation for universities. Also, the college offers a wide range of Higher Education courses for full and part-time studies, as well as many Adult Learning classes. 

Campus information

The Sim Balk Lane campus accommodates approximately 3,500 full-time students and 9,000 part-time students. The campus provides a great number of different facilities including art shop, 3G sports pitch, theatre, a nursery, hair & beauty spa and nail bar. Also, the college offers an oustanding library facilities with more than 58,000 books and 120 journals. Overall campus provides friendly and highly pleasant learning atmospere, where students can meet new friends,as well as focus on their studies. 


York College is located on the outskirts of York city, near to York Racecourse. The Sim Balk Lane campus is located two miles from the railway station and there are frequent services to a variety of destinations including Edinburgh, Manchester, London and Leeds. Also, there is a direct 'Park & Ride' bus every eight minutes from the college to the station.
