Campus information

With an endowment of more than $1.6 billion, Amherst College has a large array of physical facilities. Some of its many facilities are mentioned below:

Mead Art Museum – Having a collection of over 16,000 works of art, Mead Art Museum has a wide variety of American, European, Japanese and Ancient art and is now focusing on getting more Russian Art works.
Library – Amherst College has four libraries located in different parts of the campus. Firstly, the Robert Frost Library, which is the main one housing more than a million volumes and almost 400’000 multimedia materials. In addition to this, it has extensive achieves and Special Collections. It also has a media center and a language lab. The other three libraries specialize in science, math and music respectively.
Amherst College Museum of Natural History – This Museum has around 200, 000 items of which the Hitchcock Ichnological Cabinet is considered the world’s largest collection of dinosaur tracks.
Wilder Observatory – Is an astronomical observatory built in 1901 and later renovated in the year 2001. It was the largest telescope in the world and remains as one of the largest refractors.

The campus is located in Amherst, Mass., a town of 35,000 people in the western part of the state. Our scenic 1,000-acre campus is adjacent to downtown Amherst and includes a 500-acre wildlife sanctuary.

Residence Halls
