University of Auckland

University of Auckland is made up of a few campuses, spread across different locations in New Zealand. The campus where students will study in depends on their area of study. The campuses are:

• The City Campus is the university’s main campus and covers 20 hectares of land. Located right in the heart of Auckland, students are just within walking distance of all the main cultural, entertainment and commercial hubs.
• Grafton Campus is situated opposite Auckland Hospital and is home to the Schools of Medical Sciences, Nursing, Optometry and Vision Science, and Pharmacy. Facilities include a café, health services and the Philson Library.
• Epsom Campus has a serene environment, surrounded by leafy pohutukawa trees. It is a 10-minute drive away from the city, and is the main campus for the Faculty of Education and Social Work.
• Tāmaki Innovation Campus is based in the east Auckland suburb of St Johns, and is mainly a postgraduate campus. The public transport system makes travelling easy, as the nearest train station is only a few minutes’ walk away.
• Tai Tokerau Campus is a short distance from the city centre, and is where students under the Faculty of Education study. Home to approximately 180 students, this small campus has a friendly learning environment and a close-knit community.
• Manukau Campus was established in 1999 to provide students in the Manukau area with more educational opportunities. The campus offers Faculty of Education and Social Work programmes, as well as selected postgraduate courses.
• Newmarket Campus is the university’s newest campus. It covers five hectares of land and is located near a major business area. This campus is predominantly used for research and postgraduate studies.

There are various types of accommodation offered or managed by the university:

Halls of residence

The University of Auckland offers five different halls of residence for first-year students, complete with free Internet access, catering services, social activities and pastoral care. Basic facilities such as laundry rooms, reading libraries, TV and music rooms are also available. Other facilities such as BBQ and sports areas vary between the halls. The halls of residence are:

Self-catered accommodation

This type of accommodation is suitable for students who prefer a more independent lifestyle. Self-catered accommodation is still managed by the university, and cater to single students as well as postgraduate couples with families:

• Goldie Estate Homestead
• Huaia Residence
• UniLodge Anzac/Beach
• Parnell Student Village

Private accommodation

This is an alternative option for students who want to explore external accommodation. Although such accommodation is not managed by the University of Auckland, students may consult the university’s advisory service team for what options are available. Such options may include:

• Renting a studios or one-bedroom apartment
• Flat sharing
• Hostel facilities
• Homestay or host families
