Pécs is the fifth largest city in Hungary with a population of about 180,000. It lies in South Transdanubia, close to the border with Croatia.
Pécs is a university city. It is full of restaurants, cafés and bars and has an incredibly vivid student life day and night. It which used to be the European Capital of Culture in 2010 (with Essen and Istanbul)
The easiest way to reach Hungary is traveling by plane. There are flights from all over the world to Budapest, the capital of Hungary. To reach Pécs one can take an intercity train or a minibus service, which is a transportation service directly from the Airport to any address in Pécs.
Student hostel accommodation is offered to exchange students coming on a scholarship or through bilateral agreements between the sending university and the UP. Student hostels are located in residential area of Pécs. The faculties of the University as well as the city centre are fairly accessible from here, only a short bus journey away.
Altogether there are several rooms of reasonably high quality available for ERAMUS (European Union (EU) student exchange programme) incomers during the academic year - however we cannot offer a room for a single student due to the short supply of generally large demand for rooms.
The rooms are furnished and contain a bathroom. Bedclothes are supplied. Rooms are offered at a reasonable price.
Life in the student hostels and the various events held in them (game shows, contests, professional programs, exhibitions) are organized by the Student Hostel Committee. The infrastructure of the student hostels has been constantly improving in recent years. Nearly all hostels offer library and computer services, and have their own clubs, sporting facilities, snack bars, video and TV rooms.
