LMU Munich is divided into 18 faculties which group together major areas of teaching and research.
The architectural centerpiece of LMU Munich is its historic Main Building in the heart of the city. Primarily home to the social sciences and humanities, this world-famous building also houses the main university library in its south wing, with collections comprising nearly half of LMU Munich’s total stock of 6.6 million volumes in the university’s central and more than 150 departmental libraries.
The main library is close to the Bavarian State Library and several important museums and archives, providing an ideal infrastructure for research and study.
It is very difficult to find housing in Munich, particularly at the beginning of the winter semester, in the months of September, October and November.
The majority of the approximately 100.000 students in Munich live in private rooms, flat-shares or apartments. Only about 13% of students actually live in student housing which is mostly managed by the “Studentenwerk München”.
The average rent for sublet rooms is about 400€ per calendar month.
Rooms in flat-shares and apartments cost between 400€ and 650€, depending on the location and facilities, whereas rooms in student housing can cost between 200€ and 390€.
