About Czech Technical University

Boasting a rich heritage of more than three hundred years, the Czech Technical University in Prague (CTU) is a world-class technical university home to more than 24,000 engineering students. Czech Technical University is a public university which was established in 1707 with the motto of Scientia est potential which means Knowledge is power. It ranked 121 among the technology universities of the world which was surveyed by THES-QS World University Rankings in 2010. Christian Joseph Willenberg was the first founder of this university.

In 1975 Professor Vlado Prelog won the Nobel Prize for Chemistry. He was the Czech Technical University graduate (1928). CTU continues to maintain its high standards by putting strong emphasis on high-level research-based education. Due to the university’s extensive scientific and research activities with industrial applications, CTU graduates are sure to find a wide range of offers in the employment market.

CTU provides high-quality university education through an extensive portfolio of primarily engineering branches of study. The state-of-the-art curriculum is designed with the objective of acquiring technical thought processes and skills that are indispensable for the society. CTU cooperates closely with both domestic and foreign-based institutions. 

 

Campus information

There are 8 faculties in CTU ranging from Civil engineering, Information Technology to Architecture. CTU conducts basic and applied research and numerous scientific projects with great emphasis on industrial use and applications. The central library, which is located in the National Technical Library (NTL), serves primarily students and CTU academic employees.

CTU is able to offer direct financial aid through a small number of scholarships for international masters and doctoral degree students.

  • CTU provides accommodation for almost 8 000 students in several dormitories equipped with all basic facilities. Students with special needs have a right for an adaptation of their study conditions. Dormitories provided non-barrier rooms for such students.
  • There are 27 sport disciplines that students can choose from, including traditional sports, combat sports and even newer sports such as floorball, and squash.
  • The university faculties also have well-established physical education teams and clubs. Student associations in CTU such the ISC (international Students Club) organises excursions, recreational sports events, etc.
