JPA scholars not affected by depreciating ringgit, says Azalina

She said that the scholarship is paid in the currency of the respective country the students are studying in. 

"The amount allocated for each student is different, based on the country and course a student is undertaking. Therefore, the government is not imposing any penalty of reducing the amount based on the current exchange rate," 

Furthermore, students are also given allowances to alleviate their study cost including living expenses, and book, stationery and clothing allowances. 

According to Azalina, the government is spending around RM1.9 billion each year to support Malaysian students abroad under the JPA scholarship.
