Monash University in Malaysia
The first foreign branch campus that was set up in Malaysia was by Monash University, Australia which was established in 1998. Monash Malaysia has been given the rating of 'excellent' by the Malaysian Ministry of Higher Education, which entitles it to government sponsorship of its students, government research grants and greater flexibility in setting staff salaries. The Malaysian campus is currently home to approximately 4,000 undergraduate and postgraduate students. It has research strengths in biotechnology, medicine & health, economic & business modelling, Islamic banking, electronic test technology and agri-business.
Curtin University in Malaysia (Curtin University Sarawak Campus)
Curtin University's operations in Sarawak commenced in February 1999. In 2002, the new campus was built. Curtin Sarawak offers identical degrees to those at the Curtin University main campus in Western Australia. Examinations for the degree programmes are set and moderated at Curtin's main campus in Perth to ensure that they meet and fulfill the academic standards. Academics from Perth visit the Curtin Sarawak campus on a regular basis for quality audit and for consultations on various issues ranging from assignments, projects, tasks and other assessments.
The University of Nottingham, Malaysia Campus
The University was recently ranked as "excellent" (or tier 5 in a scale of tier 1 - 6) and is classified as a private institution, by the Malaysian Ministry of Higher Education. The Malaysia Campus was the first campus of a British University in Malaysia and one of the first to open outside Britain thus earning the distinction of the Queen's Awards for Enterprise 2001 and the Queen's Award for Industry (International Trade) 2006.
Being a satellite campus of the University of Nottingham, students are taught with the same course materials as those in the UK and in China and are under the jurisdiction of the Quality Assurance Agency for Higher Education (QAA). Upon completing a degree at the Malaysia campus, students are awarded a University of Nottingham degree certificate which is indistinguishable from the certificates awarded at the Nottingham campus. The degrees that are awarded are accredited by international professional bodies such as the Association of MBA's and the UK Engineering Council.
Swinburne University of Technology, Sarawak, Malaysia
Swinburne University of Technology Sarawak Campus is the foreign branch campus of Swinburne University of Technology (Melbourne, Australia) located in Kuching, Sarawak, Malaysia. Established in 2000, Swinburne Sarawak operates as a partnership between the Sarawak State Government and Swinburne Australia. The initiative behind the Sarawak campus is part of a long term strategy by Swinburne Australia to "globalize its operations and provide its students with international living, working and learning opportunities". It offers pre-university (Foundation), undergraduate and postgraduate degree courses.
Newcastle University Medicine (NUMed) Malaysia
Newcastle University UK, has established an international branch campus in Johor, Malaysia to provide its undergraduate degrees in Medicine (MB BS) and the Biomedical Sciences (BSc), and opportunities for postgraduate study. The programmes of study are identical to those of Newcastle’s UK-based provision, and lead to the award of the same degrees. By choosing to study at NUMed Malaysia, students will obtain a reputable UK qualification, from an internationally recognized university, at a cost significantly less than that of studying in the UK.
Netherlands Maritime Institute of Technology (NMIT)
NMIT's campus will be at Educity@Iskandar in the state of Johor. It offers courses covering maritime transportation, port and shipping management, logistics, maritime law, maritime HSSE, etc.
