UTP Launches Second Innovation Pitching for ESTCON2016

November 11, 2017

EasyUni Staff

First introduced in 2014, the Innovation Pitching programme has helped innovators and inventors commercialise their invention. Innovation Pitching aims to fulfil the following primary objectives: to bridge UTP technology to the industry, to create awareness of UTP's capability in technology development, and to commercialise UTP technology. In addition to UTP technologies, the opportunity is also open to inventors from other institutions in Malaysia.

Bridging Technology to Industry

This event has become an opportunity to bring new innovations to the worldwide platform, allowing innovators and inventors to pitch new technologies and directly connect them to potential investors and business partners.

During its 2014 run, it was able to carry out 26 pitches, nine of which were in discussion with government agencies such as Agensi Inovasi Malaysia (AIM), KPerak Implementation and Coordination Corporation (KPerak) among others.

Creating Awareness on Capabilities

As most of UTP's technology has been deemed 'ready' by the Technology Readiness Level (TRL), the University aims to further up the scale to meet the demands of the market.

Utilising the University's technology, the innovators and inventors will have access to world-class facilities of the University, to conduct their research and development (R&D) projects.

Commercialising the Technology

The Innovation Pitching session is not just an avenue for researchers and developers to exhibit their innovations. It is also a bridge between UTP and the respective industry to further upscale and commercialise the technologies. This will be carried out through the mass-marketing of locally developed inventions.

In line with the government's aspirations to make Malaysia as a high-income nation by 2020 – particularly through technological innovations – the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (MOSTI), together with its partners in R&D industry, will put effort to ensure the targets have been realised. This is to bring more and more innovations available to be recognised in the global market.

Innovation Pitching in ESTCON2016

For this year, UTP will be in strong collaboration with PlaTCOM Ventures and Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC), among other big names, for the product selection during the event. The pitching event will include products and technologies from UTP, as well as other institutions.

This year's collaborators will also be providing matching grants to the industry for the technology uptake from this session – as long as the participating company will meet the requirements set by the collaborators.

Participants will be able to explore new technologies for their business expansion and meet fund providers during this event. The public will also get a chance to see newly developed products as well as visit each participating company’s booths to know more about their role in the industry.

As how it has always been, ESTCON will become a convergent zone for top academics, researchers, scientists, and engineers from around the world. It is only fitting that this event is also an opportunity to discover new talents to further the developments in the R&D industry in the fields of Engineering Science and Technology.  This is the reason why the Innovation Pitching is an event not to be missed.

The Innovation Pitching Programme is part of the Engineering, Science and Technology Congress (ESTCON2016) on 15-17 August 2016 at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre, Kuala Lumpur Malaysia.

First held on 2010, ESTCON has been the ‘centre stage’ for knowledge-sharing, intellectual discussions and also networking on various areas of interests. With this year’s theme “Engineering, Science, Technology and Humanities:  Convergence for a Sustainable Future”, the congress will stress on bridging the community of experts in research and innovation to sustain knowledge for the betterment of the society.

The event is organised through the efforts of Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS. For more information, visit ESTCON2016 website, or email the Secretariat at [email protected]
