Last week, Kamalanathan said the government would not recognise the UEC due to national interest and sovereignty.

Teo has doubt on the statements from Kamalanathan because he has no idea how the recognition of the UEC is related to national sovereignty. Moreover, he also said that the federal cabinet should clarify about the rigidness of the decision why UEC is not falling squarely within the national curriculum and education philosophy.

As the president of Liberal Democratic Party (LDP), Teo has approached the Prime Minister on November 9, 2015 about the recognition of the UEC and asked about the reopening of discussion with Dong Zong. Dong Zong is the United Chinese School Committees Association of Malaysia (UCSCAM) that coordinates the schools’ curriculum and organises the Unified Examination Certificate (UEC) standardised test.

Additionally, Teo also discussed the uniqueness of the Chinese Private Schools in Sabah to the Prime Minister as a resolution to urge the government to recognise the UEC. He believes that the issue of the recognition of the UEC can be discussed on the round table because the Prime Minister is concerned of the syllabus for Bahasa Malaysia and History standard. He also added that the government and Dong Zong can always negotiate and compromise to each other pertaining to the UEC issue.
