Subang Jaya, 9 October 2019 - Taylor's University recently celebrated its 14th year of Taylor's World Class Scholarship (TWCS) by successfully granting 16 recipients through a special ceremony at Taylor's Lakeside Campus.
TWCS is a prestigious scholarship implemented by Taylor's University to provide holistic developmental support for scholars. The scholarship also guarantees all 16 students an internship placement or a place in the management trainee programme with world-class industry partners. For 2019, the list of industry partners consists of BASF Petronas, BDO, BMW, CIMB Group, DwP, Edelman, Four Seasons, IBM, Johnson & Johnson, L’Oréal, Mandarin Oriental, Maybank, Microsoft, Mondelez, Oracle, and Veritas Design Group. Taylor’s University has invested approximately more than RM19 million in TWCS award programme to date with a fraction of RM1.72 million funded for TWCS 2019 recipients.
Professor Michael Driscoll, Taylor’s University Vice-Chancellor and President, made a remark in his speech that when the scholarship was founded 14 years ago in 2006, it was aimed to approach relevant work history and a holistic approach to education.
"Our students’ holistic development is our ultimate priority. To this end, we ensure that our curriculum is updated and current with what the industry requires, and innovate on our students’ total experience while learning at Taylor’s. Part of this is our innovation with the Taylor’s World Class Scholarship programme, which equips students not just with financial support but also by opening doors to the best industrial experience in the country today”, he said.
He further added, “Taylor’s success lies in its pursuit to provide continuous holistic education for students over the past 50 years, through integrated new learning approaches as well as a skills-based methodology to develop holistically balanced graduates. I’m proud to share that our effort has been recognised by employers. With the latest results released by QS; the QS Graduate Employability Rankings 2020; Taylor’s University has been acknowledged as the best private university for employer reputation in the country. Taylor’s University was recognised for this indicator in two other ranking exercises as well; QS World University Rankings 2020 and Asia University Rankings 2019".
Besides getting insights from an industry level education approach, the scholarship also covers other aspects of individual growth that are needed for industrial preparation. The recipients will be given the opportunity to improve their soft skills, such as leadership and time management skills through a designed training programme during their internship placement.
