New and Improved Community Colleges Promised by MOHE

The employability rate for students graduating from the 103 community colleges in Malaysia currently stands at a very high 97.2%, highlighted Datuk Seri Idris Jusoh, the Minister of Higher Education in Malaysia as he spoke to Bernama. In an attempt to further push this rate higher, Idris Jusoh announced plans at the convocation ceremony for community colleges in Kelantan, Terengganu and Pahang, of opening up to 10 new community colleges in Malaysia annually. This was said citing that “the community colleges are able to supply the skilled workers required by the country,” with such a variety of possibilities of employment “because of the educational and vocational transformation, as well as the close cooperation of the various companies in the industrial sector.”
In order to mould and adapt to the various industry requirements, Idris Jusoh stressed on the importance of healthy cooperation between community colleges and sectors of various industries, due to, “as of middle of last year, I was informed that 1,850 graduates of community colleges were able to get placement at the various economic corridors in the country, including 700 people at Iskandar Malaysia, 300 people at the East Coast Economic Corridor and 400 people at the Northern Corridor Economic Region.”
Moreover, the minister also talked of the vigorous improvements which will be brought about amongst the existing community colleges nationwide, as well as a greater number of houses built for the poor by community college students, such as the 18 which have already been built in Besut.
