Ranking Methodology:
QS prides itself on using holistic measures of university performance rather than focusing solely on research performance. For those of you wondering exactly how these universities are ranked, QS collects information on academic reputation, employer reputation, faculty/student ratio, citations per faculty, international student ratio, and international staff ratio. These categories carry different weights. Academic reputation, based on a global survey of academics, is the most important and carries 40% importance overall. The two next most important categories, at 20% each, are faculty/student ratio, which indicates a commitment to teaching, and citations per faculty, indicating research impact. Next comes employer reputation, based on a global survey of graduate employers, accounting for 10% of a university's score. International student ratio, indicative of the international diversity in the student community, and international staff ratio, measuring the diversity of the academic faculty, are weighed 5% each. The top 400 universities are given individual ranking positions, and after this universities are placed within a group, starting from 401-410, up to 701+.
