Malaysia to Help Improve Laos Education System

The plan was made after he attended the the second Strategic Dialogue of Education Minister (SDEM), Southeast Asian Ministers of Education Organisation (Seameo). Bringing together at least 100 education ministry officials and ministers from Southeast Asian countries, the forum discussed the goals to expand the education agenda throughout the region. In a meeting held during the one-day forum, Laos' Education and Sports Minister, Dr. Koongsy Sengmany approached the Malaysian Minister to ask for a collaboration regarding teachers training and student exchange programme, particularly in vocational and technical training.
Datuk Mahdzir Khalid stated that the government of the Republic of Laos has requested help from Malaysia to assist its effort in improving the Laos’ education system quality, especially in vocational and technical education.
He also added that the Laotian minister perceived Malaysia as a successful country in transforming Technical Vocational Education Training (TVET) and wanted to share the experience with his country.
