In an interview, director Roland Emmerich - who also directed the original movie - admitted he patiently waited before he made Independence Day: Resurgence until it could match his vision for the movie. With an improved and modernised tool in creating digital effects, Emmerich produced a visually impressive and a spectacular sequel.
The story begins two decades after the 1996 “Independence Day,” when humanity was rescued from its first alien invasion. The world has done everything to prepare itself in case the aliens return. Using the recovered alien technology humans were able to achieve futuristic innovations in the hopes of protecting the planet from the ‘resurgence’ of the enemies. The nations of Earth collaborated on an immense defence program to protect the planet. However, these extraterrestrials prepared more than expected. The new alien mothership is 3,000 miles wide big enough to generate its own gravity and lift the cities into its orbit. Is the new defence system enough to protect humanity from another alien invasion? You’ll have to stay glued to your seats to find out!
While one may find the story predictable, Emmerich provided great subplots that added substance to make the story more striking and appealing.
Resurgence includes a new generation of younguns who will later be on the sharp edge of the counter attack against the alien invaders. Liam Hemsworth played a significant role as Jake while Jessie Usher played the character of Dylan, son of the original hero pilot Captain Steven Hiller (played by Will Smith in the original movie) who suffered death from a test flight years ago. Jake and Dylan’s character struggle on both professional and personal level.
Meanwhile, Jake’s relationship with ex-President Whitmore’s daughter Patricia (Maika Monroe) is also one the highlights of the film. Both characters showed unwavering commitment to fight for their lives, for their loved ones, and for the humankind.
Given its thrilling scenes, relatable characters, and astounding storyline, along with breathtaking visual and sound effects, Independence Day: Resurgence is up to become another blockbuster movie for this quarter.
Starring Jeff Goldblum, Bill Pullman, Liam Hemsworth, Maika Monroe, Jessie T. Usher, William Fichtner, Brent Spiner, John Storey, Charlotte Gainsbourg, Vivica A. Fox, Joey King, Angelababy, Sela Ward, Judd Hirsch, Grace Huang, Ryan Cartwright, Deobia Oparei, Chin Han, McKenna Grace, Nicholas Wright, Travis Tope, Gbenga Akinnagbe, and Grizelda Quintana, the movie, under 20th Century Fox, truly solidifies Roland Emmerich as the Hollywood’s Soulful Master of Disaster
Independence Day: Resurgence is a bang-for-buck entertainment and is amusingly spectacular as what expect from a sequel. Get your tickets and watch this awesome film as it hits theatres this week!
