The IIUM winning team comprised three students, including 23-year-old Malaysian law student, Ameera Natasha Moore, 21-year-old, Sara Abdul Rahim and 25-year-old Mubarrat Wassey, economics students who hail from Afghanistan and Bangladesh respectively. Mubarrat was also awarded the title for the overall best speaker in Asia, making an IIUM student achieve this recognition for the second year running.

This year's tournament convened a total of 84 teams with as many as 252 debaters from different countries across Asia. The teams facing off each other in the finals were from IIUM and Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM), who were also last year's UADC finalists, hosted in Bali, Indonesia.

Students from Malaysia have clearly established themselves as powerful orators in the region as the honor for the UADC best speaker has been presented to a Malaysian student for the last three years. Malaysia has also remained at the forefront of Asia's debating arena, being among the top three countries vying for the leading position against Singapore and the Philippines. - Sidra Ayub
