With speculations of the Parliment being disbanded to make way for the 14th General Elections (GE14) coming in even more strongly than ever today, the expected date for the voting polls to be open is now three weeks to one month away, landing somewhere between the 1st and 12th of May 2018.

There are still however an estimated three million citizens of age who aren't registed voters yet, and possibly many more who have neglected to confirm their elligibility.

Despite what people may say, any and all votes do count as it is the clearest sign of excecuting the power of the people as one nation and constitution who fully acknowledge and exercise their rights.

Make sure to run through these steps below to ensure your voice will be heard as a say in our country's future!

1. Are you Qualified to Vote?

You are eligible to cast a ballot in the General Elections if you:

  • Are a Malaysian citizen aged 21 and above
  • Are free from jail term
  • Are not found guilty under the Election Offences Act, 1954
  • Are not in possession of a foreign citizenship
  • Have never been barred/disqualified by any laws in force.

2. Have you Registered?

You should be in the database if you had already:

  • Brought along your IC to ONE of the following locations:
  1. Election Commission of Malaysia Headquarter
  2. State Election Offices
  3. Post Offices
  • Filled up Form A and kept a copy of the form.

OR

  • Registered via post (FOR OVERSEAS RESIDENTS)
  1. Have been registered as an ordinary voter.
  2. Have returned to Malaysia in not less than 30 days within five years before the dissolvement of parliment/ state assembly.
  3. Must be living oversease (except for southern Thailand (Narathiwat, Pattani, Yala, Songkhla and Satun), Singapore, Brunei and Kalimantan province, Indonesia - voters residing in these regions are required to return to their previous Malaysian state of residence to cast their vote.)
  4. Have downloaded Form 1B from the Electoral Commission (EC) website and submitted it before midnight of the day Parliment is dissolved.

** If you have registered between the 1st of January and the 31st of March in this year (2018), you may only be able to vote should the GE14 be held around mid-May.

NOTE: Malaysians registered as Overseas Absent Voters need to update all address information through the 'Sistem Aduan' and 'Pertanyaan SPR' on its homepage. Applicants must also include their passport for verification purposes and to notify the EC to post vote papers and ballots for the GE14.

Do note that postal ballots will be managed by Pos Malaysia Berhad instead of the Foreign Ministry, so take extra precaution during mailing it.

3. What do I do if I am a student overseas and wish to vote?

To those who are currently studying full time overseas (other than in Singapore, Southern Thailand, Brunei and Kalimantan, Indonesia), you can register as an absentee voter and submit your vote, too!
  • Bring along your IC and passport to either ONE of the following locations:
  1. Malaysian Embassy
  2. High Commission
  3. Consulate in country of work or study
  • Fill up Form A and keep a copy of the form.

Between now and the dissolution of the Parliament, go to the location listed above and register as a postal voter by submitting Form 1B.

 Done!

Well, wasn't so complicated, was it?

All that's left is to confirm your status as a registered voter at Semakan Daftar Pemilih (Voter Registration Check) section of the Election Commission of Malaysia's website.

Let us come together to make our voices heard during the upcoming GE14!
