Not everyone is born with the same capacity and level of intelligence, but one thing for sure is that we are all the same in nature; we live to learn and grow.
We often categorise academic courses according to how many smart students are enrolled in the course. Typically those smart students are among whose SPM results are excellent. How about others who didn't pass with flying colours?
If your interest is skewed more towards oil and gas, you can still pursue your dream with your mediocre SPM results. First, it is important to consider that the university that offers credible oil and gas courses. At the end of the day, employers from the oil and gas industry will look at the quality and expertise of the university you graduated from.
The problem is the university that offers the best oil and gas programmes are only from great universities like Universiti Teknologi Petronas (UTP) and Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM). What if your SPM results do not meet their minimum requirement?
Here’s your chance:
You can enrol yourself at any educational institutions under Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) Malaysia, which are Kolej Kemahiran Tinggi MARA, Institut Kemahiran MARA and MARA Japan Industrial Institute (MJII). For example, the relevant course is Diploma in Gas Engineering Technology.
Getting into MARA is quite flexible as the syllabus taught are focused more on technicality and practicality. You will be trained well for on the diploma courses of your choice before you can pursue your bachelor’s degree.
Unlike school, college education works differently. You don’t have to take different subjects in college like you did in school. You’ll be focusing on the subjects that are only related to your course, which can help you focus more and do well.
If you’re wondering how the pathway looks like, you can refer to the example below:
a) Begin your first Diploma studies in Diploma in Gas Engineering Technology at one of the TVET institutions
b) Graduate with excellent results and use them to pursue your desired bachelor degree course in oil and gas
c) Graduate and pursue your career with attractive salary
This may look simple, but once you work on it, it will not be a smooth journey. Make sure you really know what you want for your future. Find out which course is the right major for you. It is important to note that your bachelor’s degree course determines where you’re going in your career, especially in the oil and gas field.
