Full-Time Study VS Part-Time Work

Full-time study and part-time working have their pros and cons, so we will be comparing these two from three factors, which are pocket money, time, and experience.

Pocket money

With that extra spending money, not only you can relieve the burden of your parents, you can also spend the money on the stuff you want without thinking twice. Furthermore, those who work part-time can use that money to make investments. Investment, meaning that it is not in the stock market but rather yourself, such as buying educational books, going to business events, or even applying your gym membership.

A quote from Warren Buffett, which says, "The best investment you can make is an investment in yourself. The more you learn, the more you will earn". Compared to those who only study, they will have to depend on their monthly allowance entirely and may not be able to appreciate the value of hard-earned money. To conclude, working part-time can provide financial freedom and little advantages over those who don't.

Time

Secondly, time is a considering factor between full-time study and part-time working. The full-time study allows students to have more time focusing on their assignments and tests. Eventually, most full-time students could achieve better results than students who work part-time as they can put all their time on studies without any other distractions.

On the other hand, students who work part-time might not have enough time to focus on their studies compared to students who study full time. Based on the report "The Value of Education - The Price of Success" released by HSBC Bank in the year 2018, Malaysian students spend an average of 3.4 hours per day on a part-time job, but only an average of 2.3 hours on studies. Consequently, students' grades might be affected. To sum up, students need to consider the time factor before they decide on full-time study or part-time working.

Experience

The third factor is experience. Experience is something that you can't buy. In college, you can get experience through joining clubs and societies or participating in various activities and workshops. Besides, your course might also allow you to gain exposure through projects, such as employer projects, and internships, in which you work with the employer to help them to solve their problems.

As if you work part-time, you get to gain experiences that you will not learn in the classroom. To expand, you get to meet people from different industries, get more exposure to the real world, and also deal with different situations. After all, it depends on you whether to gain experiences through studies or part-time jobs as both of them provide different experiences. 

All in all, the three comparisons between full-time study and part-time working are pocket money, time, and experience. However, you have to admit that it's often much harder to get experience without a good education. That's the reason why education is essential, as well as experience. In the end, it all boils down to your decision, as each person has different backgrounds.
