Senator Chong said "Sitting for Form Six examination may be tough but it gives students better opportunity to apply for the course they want, especially in public universities.” He also added the fact that Form Six education is free, making parents’ life easier in terms of supporting their children’s education.
Senator Chong said this in response to the shocking students’ attendance on the Form Six Orientation Day at Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Chung Ling in Butterworth, Penang.
Although the school has sent out offer letters to its 337 Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) students, there were only 66 students went for the orientation. This turnout rate was very disappointing to the school principal, Loh Kooi Cheng.
Loh said “Previously we used to have between 100 to 200 students but this is the first time there is such poor turnout.”
He also stated that students who pass their Form Six will have better adjustment to university studies and he welcomes more students to register for Form Six in the following days.
