This monetary award will aid the students in covering their pre-universities studies, the requirement being that their studies must be done in local institutions and may continue their studies further with their first degree locally or abroad.

The students will be offered options for their pre-universities studies, whether they want to opt for Sijil Tinggi Persekolahan Malaysia (STPM), Matriculation, Foundation, A-Levels or International Baccalaureate (IB).

In a statement made by the Education Ministry, the bursary will be automatically given to all the students who fulfill the requirements of obtaining 9A+ in their SPM result in 2014, regardless of ethnicity, race and family background with the funds covering academic fees, cost of living and accommodation allowances.

The SPM results that were distributed to the students on Tuesday, a total of 11,289 obtained results with combination of A+, A and A- in all of the subjects.

A comprehensive grading system for the SPM was put into effect in the year 2009, with the change giving a more specific insights of candidates who performed well and obtained grade As in the examination.

Tan Sri Alimuddin Mohd Dom, the education director-general stated that the change was supposedly be a new grade of A+ as the highest grade possible to be achieved previously in SPM was A1.

The change was implemented due to the various feedback - the system at current time did not give a detailed information that can be used to distinguish the excellent students. He also said that the improved grading system would allow more candidates that are qualified for training programmes and scholarships to be chosen effectively.

Students can visit the Education Ministry’s Bursary Online Application System (BOAS) at www.moe.gov.my from 4th of March to 30th June of 2015 to check their offers.

Students are required to read and understand requirements and update their information through the BOAS. Contact the Ministry’s Sponsorship Division at 03-8321-7086 or through e-mail at [email protected] for further information and enquiries.
